The photograph on the left was taken in Ghent (DBA rally 2002) - it illustrates a classic motorised Klipper.

JENAL is similar in appearance but modernised for live-aboard with a longer wheelhouse and more windows in the superstructure.

This is a picture of an early 1900's Dutch sailing Klipper photographed on the river Maas. Her lea-boards are clearly shown looking a like large retracted flipper on her starboard side.

Because sail was her only original form of power, the lowered lea-boards reduced her tendency to slip sideways as the wind blew across her sails. A similarly effect to the keel of a popular modern off-shore sail boat.
