The TVR Tuscan 4.7 litre V8 was the fastest production sportscar of the day and this particular one was hairy! It was originally the works race-car driven by the late Gerry Marshall, he wrote it off in a racing 'incident' and Alan purchased the wreck and rebuilt it, with a new chassis/refurbished engine and returned it to a road-car. It was powered by a Ford 289 V8 that had been tuned by Brabham. Braking was a challenge as was keeping the large Birrani wire wheels and hubs attached to the rear of the car. The bodywork went to a specialist to widen the arches, enabling them to clear the wider tyres and at the same time, to change the rear lamp assemblies from the then popular Ford Mk I Cortina 'ban-the-bomb' style to 2 pairs of VW type II lamps as a styling nod to the iconic Ford Mustang of the period. Alan struggled with funding the 'beast' and he eventually sold it to help finance his first house purchase.
