The aft anchor also known as a drag anchor is a vital part of JENAL's build for two reasons. For reason of safety, it can be quickly deployed if JENAL suffered a mechanical problem in tidal waters. And the second reason is, to meet the latest SI European Standards  (Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine). Unfortunately, one can't argue with the regulators.

Because JENAL is based on a late 1800's Klipper design, most of her external appearance is centered around this period theme. We had a problem because these 'grappling-hook' style anchors are no longer made (modern builds use bow anchors), old ones are like the proverbial 'hens-teeth' so Alan designed this one and  Ament made it. This picture was taken before it went off for galvanizing. Galvanizing will bring its total weight up of 55 kilos! This should help with ballasting!
