Winter ~ 15/16
|
'A' has prattled on
before about cold winter-times being the great educator for barge
heat retention and his last major task for this crusade was
secondary glassing the 8 large side windows in the saloon and
galley areas. It wasn't the actual principle of secondary
glassing, he had already proved its great advantages it to
himself.
The two problems for this particular living area
were appearance and practicality, four of the windows had to open
in warmer times. The actual opening was restricted to the top half
of the four windows and these slide down. Similar in outlined
principle to old fashioned sash windows.
When one is in a
country where stockiest are unfamiliar it ads a challenge to find
suitable product to resolve ones issues. In this instance, the
issue of appearance of the secondary window panels and their
fixings. 'A' used T20 torque screws (star-drive) with white
plastic push on covers to hide the screw heads. The four opening
windows are made in two halves with a horizontal rebated joint
inline with window frame. Allowing removal of just the top half
panel to access the window openers in summertime.
