CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION - story page number fifty
While road testing, the Benelli lost its ability to charge the battery. It transpired that the alternator had failed and a Benelli Achilles Heal had reared its ugly head. The alternator rotor had thrown a winding and the shellac insulation had cracked allowing it to short out.  Alan contacted Motomecca Spares who offered a conversion to a permanent magnet rotor - brushless design with higher outputs at lower rpm and no rotor windings to fail. Made by UK company Electrex World, it was easy to install and a long term (permanent) fix. It comes with its own solid state regulator but is a relatively expensive fix.
