Compromises come thick and fast in barge building and here is a further example, the circular kitchen and sink height. Normal kitchen work surface heights are 93cm (approx.) but this got too tight below the gunnel area so we mocked up this 10cm lower section to see if it worked okay. Alan modeled it and it worked fine. This enabled Tim Smith of Andrew Varah cabinet makers, who was with Alan at this fitting, to see first-hand and remodel the kitchen to incorporate this lowered sink area. All agreed that it was a good compromise and would add a feature rather than look odd.

This mocked up sink area would stay in place for the sea trials of JENAL and her UK bound Channel crossing, enabling her occupants to source water etc.
