The hydraulically lowering wheelhouse was originally built with a method for supporting the weight of the front and rear screens, resembling scissor style pram brackets. Eddij Paal and his carpentry team quite rightly said they looked ugly and would spoil their planned internal trimming in teak wood.

It was agreed at this late stage to re-engineer these screen supports because the scissor brackets also didn't assist in helping with the weight of hand lowering these weighty screens to a point which then allowed the roof to further lower them to their eventual horizontal position. In line with the lowered roofline of the wheelhouse.

Engineer Jan Smeets came up with a great idea of using 4 steel cables and springs inside longitudinal steel tubes per screen, set in the wheelhouse roof. With some minor adjustment of spring lengths, it worked brilliantly well and was a neat, easy to use improvement.
