Winter ~ 15/16

'The final condensation problem centres on the 17 wheelhouse windows. Not actually the double glassed windows themselves but the aluminium frames which are in direct contact with the aluminium wheelhouse structure and act as thermo conductors to the interior.

'A' Experimented with 10mm wide self adhesive closed cell foam strip from the local hardware warehouse - the sort of foam used for domestic draft exclusion. The foam strip has proven a good frame insulator, preventing condensation which ultimately rots the teak framing. 'A' has located a Dutch suppler of ideally sized 15 x 5mm self adhesive strip in 10m rolls and is awaiting delivery. Then the arduous job of neatly installing the closed cell foam around all 17 of the large window frames will begin.

In the meantime the pictured white mains voltage dehumidifier will continue its sterling job of extracting 1.5ltrs of moisture, every 24 hours, powered from the winter electric shore supply. It is amazing how much condensation is produced from these aluminium frames; plus the imponderables of human breath, running hot water, cooking, weather conditions, etc.
