The trimming of JENAL was up for major debate amongst the trades working on her. 5,000kg was the agreed weight split between the starboard side and the bow but what material to use became the fulcrum for argument.

Either the less expensive oil bagged mild steel scraps or lead ingots. As you will see from this forepeak picture, lead won. Simply because it took a lot less space for the same given weight and space is always at a premium on a live-aboard barge.

Alan started his organisation plan for the forepeak as soon as the lead ingots were in place. The upended RIB can be seen at the base of the picture but no motorbike yet.
